Police in Newry are appealing for information in relation to a report of a theft in the Monaghan Street area yesterday evening, Thursday 30th May.
A Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.10pm, police received a report that bags, containing cigarettes and cash, had been stolen from a bus.
“A short time later, two men aged 31 and 41 were arrested on suspicion of offences including theft, going equipped for theft, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, carrying an imitation firearm in a public place, and possessing an article with blade or point in a public place.
“They remain in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.
“Our investigation is continuing, and we are appealing to anyone with any information which might assist us to get in touch.
