PSNI Newry, Mourne and Down have taken to social media following a response to a group of young people climbing up and trespassing into the old North Street flats in Newry.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said:
“This evening Local Response crews in Newry received a report that once again young persons have been climbing up and trespassing into the old North Street flats. These buildings have been closed off now for quite some time and it is very dangerous to enter this building. You may think you’re just exploring but there is every chance a floor could collapse etc which could cause serious injury. This afternoon our colleagues in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue service also had to attend as one person who managed to climb up a height into the flats was now unable to climb out of the flats. This behaviour has resulted in multiple emergency response services being tied up from attending others calls for service.”
“We are appealing directly to everyone, please do not enter this building for your own safety. If you’re a parent please also mention this to your child to ensure they’re aware of this.”
