Newry Vigil Marks Palestinian Prisoners Day

Activists based at Saoradh’s Newry office held a solemn vigil yesterday evening [April 17] to coincide with Palestinian Prisoners Day.

Party member’s gathered at the Palestinian Murals at Catherine Street and displayed banners which stated “”Stop the Murder of Palestinain Children” and another which read “Saoirse don Phalaistín” – Freedom For Palestine.

Numerous passing motorists sounding their horns in support of the event as pedestrians stopped to talk to those taking part.

Palestine flags were also displayed by the activists as several armoured cars circled the vigil keeping the participants under constant surveillance.

Speaking after the vigil local ex-Republican Prisoner Stephen Murney said “Given our own proud history of Irish Republican Prison struggle it is only right and fitting that we join with people around the world in a show of international solidarity and support for our captive comrades in Palestine.

“Saoradh recognise the plight of the Palestinian prisoners and on this occasion we express solidarity them and the oppressed Palestinian people.”

“We salute them. Dlúthpháirtíocht go bráth”.
