Newry City Sinn Féin Councillor Cathal King has said that it is important that local people and communities continue to voice their concerns about the ongoing Israeli agression in Gaza.
The elected representative said that he expected large numbers of people from the Newry, Mourne & Down region to support tomorrow’s (Saturday) ‘Global Day of Action for Palestine’
The Councillor commented,
“Rallies for Gaza are taking place in Ireland and throughout the world as part of the Global Day for Palestine.
Israeli aggression in Gaza has resulted in the killing of 22,835 civilians, including almost 10,000 children, from a population of just 2.27 million in only three months. Israel must be accountable. Ireland must show leadership on the international stage.
Tomorrow in particular it is important we acknowledge the ongoing unacceptable situation. The national demonstration takes place in Dublin, and all are welcome to attend. The National Demonstration for Palestine assembles at the Garden of Remembrance with a starting time of 1pm.
Concluding Cathal said,
“We say to the people of Gaza, we will never stop speaking up for you, never stop marching for you, never stop demonstrating for you. We demand a ceasefire now”.
