The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is encouraging supporters to join a rally held in Newry on New Year’s Eve, at 1pm, on Buttercrane Quay (running along Newry Canal).
IPSC Newry Chairman Marc Mac Seáin ahead of the rally expresses the following: “Support for apartheid Israel’s crimes against humanity in Gaza is on the wane.
Nations across the world overwhelming supported a symbolic UN General Assembly resolution calling for a ceasefire and return of all hostages. Only the USA is now willing to block a more consequential ceasefire resolution on the UN Security Council. The attempted USA-lead coalition for “Operation Prosperity Guardian” to protect Red Sea shipping routes appears to have floundered, as a consequence trade to Israel has now been constrained. South Africa has filed a case at the ICJ decrying Israel for violating the Genocide Convention.
The BDS boycott movement against those collaborating with the Zionist apartheid regime is having success, with Puma stock being removed from O’Neills stores. As a result of this sort of scrutiny, Puma has dropped its sponsorship deal with the Israeli national team. Starbucks has reported losses of $11 Billion in this last quarter, with it along with McDonalds and others desperately offering saver deals to tempt customers back to make up the shortfall. Check the bdsmovement.net site for much more comprehensive information.
Israel and the USA can’t and won’t keep this genocidal crusade up forever, its unsustainable. We need to keep pushing to isolate them and every country and corporation who supports them to prevent the bloodshed of Palestinians. Netanyahu’s recent discussions with Israeli politicians have been leaked, revealing he still insists on a plan to make life in Gaza impossible and force the Gazans into the Sinai peninsula. This second Nakbha cannot be allowed to reach that point.
We will continue our work to bring down the Zionist settler colony, its apartheid system, end it and its genocide. There is much to do across Ireland and even locally. Contact newry@ipsc.ie and get involved.”
