The annual Camlough Mountain Christmas morning climb will be a chance to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to raise much needed funds for the Charity ‘Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
Sinn Féin’s Councillor Declan Murphy, who has visited Palestine and experienced the challenges facing those living there explained:
“We must not stop talking about Palestine.
“After months of brutal Israeli assaults on Gaza, nearly 20,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 6,000 children.
“It must stop. The world must force Israel to stop.
“Christmas Day unfortunately for the people of Gaza will not be a day of joy, but is set to be another day of Israeli bombardment, death, injury and fear.
“We will climb Sliabh gCuircin on Christmas morning carrying in our hearts the people of Palestine and in solidarity with them. There must be a full and unequivocal ceasefire now”.
“After gathering outside Doyle’s, the climb will leave Camlough village on Christmas morning at 9:30am
“On return to the village Café Mon Abri in the main street will be opened offering light refreshments.
“The management & staff of Café Mon Abri in support of the Palestinian people and in an act of solidarity will be providing all refreshments free of charge.
“Participant’s in the mountain climb or having a coffee in Café Mon Abri can make a donation to the Charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
“Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.
“The Charity provides immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.
