Nicola Grant of the Workers Party has claimed that , “Newry & Mourne Council has let down the people of Newry in a time of crisis”
. “Many people will recall the torrential rain we experienced last week causing the Clanrye River and Newry Canal to reach dangerously high levels”, she said
“Despite this warning, the council failed to provide a sufficient number of sandbags, resulting in significant damage to local businesses. This is simply unacceptable.
I understand the difficulties that businesses are enduring in the wakeof this flooding by the flooding.
We are all owed an explanation for this failure tand immediate re-assurance that all necessary steps to prevent similar disasters from occurring in the future have been taken.
I would like to thank the emergency responders for their work and al theie efforts to help bring the situation under control”, Nicola concluded.
