Dozens of people took to the streets of Newry Oct 14 to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people suffering under Israeli bombardment.
The picket was organised by the Revolutionary Republican Party Saoradh in response to recent developments which have shocked people around the world.
Among those present included Socialist Republicans, Trade Unionists, community workers and former Republican Prisoners.
Participants lined along Monaghan Street, one of the busiest roads in Newry, where they displayed posters, banners and unfurled the flags of Palestine and the PFLP. Passing motorists sounded horns in support of the solidarity display.
A heavy Crown Force presence was evident with numerous livered vehicles patrolling the picket line keeping all those present under constant surveillance. Their Zionist counterparts would be proud.
Speaking from the party’s Newry office after the event, local Saoradh representative Stephen Murney said “As fellow revolutionaries Saoradh definitely stand shoulder to shoulder with the Palestinian Resistance, and fully support their efforts to combat the occupiers. The people of Palestine have every right to defend themselves against Imperialist aggression and occupation much in the same way the people of Ireland do.
“The French were right to resist the Nazi occupation, the Vietnamese were right to resist US Imperialism, the Irish people were right to fight against British occupation and the same can be said for the Palestinian people struggling today against Israeli occupation.”
“We slam the Zionist, Israeli war machine who have committed barbaric acts of aggression and war crimes of which US and British imperialists are now complicit in.”
