Ratepayers Deserve First Class Leisure Facilities – Mathers

Sinn Féin councillor Aidan Mathers has said that ratepayers in Newry City deserve a first class leisure centre.

Following a meeting with senior management in Council, Cllr Mathers said:

“It was important that senior council officials heard directly from leisure centre users who are not getting the services or access to the facilities they are entitled to.

“These people have paid to be able to use a first class facility and have been badly let down by the council.

“Some of the concerns raised included poor hygiene issues, health and safety concerns, and the availability of some of the equipment and facilities.

“The new leisure centre was a significant investment in the city, and it shouldn’t be facing these issues so soon after opening.

“Sinn Féin has brought a motion to council, calling for a review of the management and delivery of the council’s leisure services, and this is due to be debated next month.

“We are determined to ensure the issues being raised by ratepayers are addressed once and for all, and the people of Newry have access to the first class leisure centre facility they deserve.”
