Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the publication of plans for the Newry City park by the council.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said:
“We welcome the plans for the park, unveiled today by the council.
“These plans offered people an opportunity to see how the Newry City park will look when phase one of works concludes.
“A number of features, including various running and sports tracks, as well as a play park, events space and a water sports area look hugely exciting.
“Phase one of works is funded by the £16.2 million allocated to the project by my colleague Conor Murphy MLA as Finance Minister.
“It’s important that the council now moves to ensure works on this major project will commence as soon as possible.
“We believe that a first class park in Newry will be a key part of the exciting city regeneration plan.
“This will bring many benefits, greatly improving the tourism potential of Newry as well as offering much needed green space in the city centre, giving a space for exercise as well providing a positive impact on the local environment and air quality.
“Sinn Féin is fully committed to delivering a first class park for the people of Newry to enjoy and will continue to press the council to ensure this is a key priority for them.
