Newry Woman to Stand Trial Accused of Hijacking Car

By Paul Higgins

A Co. Down woman is to stand trial accused of hijacking a car exactly a year ago after she denied the offence (tues).

Appearing at Newry Crown Court, 33-year-old Megan Camblin entered not guilty pleas to the two charges against her alleging that on 19 September last year, “unlawfully by force or threat” took control of a  Nissan Qashqai and also of driving the car on the Tandragee Road while unfit through drink or drugs.

Whole none of the alleged facts surrounding the charges were opened in court, prosecuting counsel Fiona O’Kane said the trial “won’t take longer than two days” and defence counsel Kevin Magill agreed as much of the evidence has been agreed.

Camblin, from Violet Hill avenue in Newry, was freed on counting bail by Judge Gordon Kerr KC who scheduled the trial on 13 December and advised her to keep in contact with her lawyers in the meantime.
