Sinn Féin Banbridge Councillor Kevin Savage has expressed his disappointment at the decision by the Department for Infrastructure to pause phase 2 of junctions works on the A1 between Hillsborough and Loughbrickland.
Cllr Savage stated “Council was informed by way of letter that the Permanent Secretary at the Department had taken a decision on the prioritisation of the major roads scheme, as a result much needed improvements to the A1 have been put on the long finger and will only be considered once the regional strategic transport plan has been confirmed and a decision made by any future Infrastructure Minister as well as funding being confirmed.
He continued “this will be deeply disappointing to those who have campaigned on this issue as well as those families who have lost loved ones on the A1”
He concluded by stating that it was imperative that a functioning Assembly and Executive is restored so that these important decisions can be made by elected MLA’s who can be held accountable for their actions.
