Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chair SDLP councillor Michael Savage has expressed his concern after a man was taken to hospital following fighting in Newry.
Police attended the incident in The Mall area in the early hours of Monday.
One man was taken to hospital for treatment to head and facial injuries.
Councillor Savage said:
“We don’t want to see scenes like this on our streets, we know that fighting can have serious and even fatal consequences and it’s highly concerning that this incident ended up with a young man being taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.
“I hope that the young man makes a full recovery and would urge anyone involved in this kind of activity to have a serious think about what they are doing and stop it at once. I would encourage anyone with any information about what happened here to come forward to police as soon as possible.”
