Sinn Féin MLA, Liz Kimmins has welcomed the new road safety measures outside St. Joseph’s Primary school in Newry
The Newry and Armagh MLA said:
“In November last year I, along with my Sinn Féin colleagues met with local residents, the principal of St. Joseph’s and DFI officials regarding serious road safety issues on Catherine Street, just outside the school.
“DFI agreed to upgrade the road markings and build a pedestrian Island to make crossing the road safer for pupils and their families.”This location has been an accident blackspot for many years, and the safety of children going to and from school has been a particular concern for the local community. I am confident these new measures will improve road safety for all going forward.
“I am delighted this work is finally underway, with the Island in place and road markings to be completed next week.
