Sinn Fein Councillor Liam Mackle has said…
‘I welcome the fact that funding has been agreed to improve the fencing around the black path beside the underpass at Portadown Road.
‘This and improved lighting are a move in the right direction. This has been an ASB hotspot for years and I have worked with local residents, council, schools and the police to address these issues over recent years.
“The residents favoured solution was the gating of the underpass but unfortunately this was rejected by the Department of Infrastructure. I recently engaged with Minister Mallon to revisit the issue but this was rejected.
Hopefully this investment in the area and regular police patrolling will see an improvement. I will continue to liaise with residents and monitor the situation.”
