Saoradh Raise Concerns at Removal of Emergency Surgery from Daisy Hill

Saoradh’s Newry office have raised concerns at the removal of emergency surgery services from Daisy Hill Hospital. These services will now take place over 20 miles away at Craigavon Hospital instead.

Speaking from Saoradh’s Newry office local craobh member Cliodhna McCool voiced the party’s concerns “Daisy Hill hospital has for many years provided a vital, and life saving, service for the many thousands of people in Newry and the surrounding area.

“This is just another example of the gradual stripping away of vital services in Daisy Hill.”

Cliodhna continued “Saoradh take this opportunity to salute all the healthcare staff who have been working tirelessly in such difficult, and extreme, circumstances. We are forever indebted.

“We sincerely hope that this move is indeed temporary and that emergency surgery will be reinstated as soon as possible.

“Numerous times in the past few years Saoradh activists stood on picket lines for striking Daisy Hill workers and also to demand the return of other vital services that had been stripped away.”

The political activist finished by saying “We will continue to monitor the situation and if the need arises Saoradh will once again mobilise our members and support base to engage in any protest action that takes place to ensure the return of this service at Daisy Hill.”
