Completion of Forkhill Drainage Works Is Welcome Relief For Residents- Larkin

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has welcomed the completion of drainage works on the Carrickasticken Road, Forkhill.

“I was contacted by a number of residents of Forkhill who raised concerns relating to water flowing from a drainage ditch on the Carrickasticken Road. During last winter this water was freezing on the road itself, causing a serious risk to drivers and walkers. The water was also flowing into adjoining properties.

“In order to resolve the situation I held discussions with the Roads Service, Environment Agency, Rivers Agency and local landowners. Following extensive contacts over the summer months to formulate a solution I met with contractors on site to help facilitate the works.

I welcome the completion of works which entailed the clearing of the drainage ditch, laying of pipes, gullies and stoning of the same ditch.

With winter approaching it was imperative that this work was carried out in order to ensure the safety of Road users.

I would thank all the government agencies and local landowners who cooperated to solve this issue.

Sinn Féin will monitor the situation over the winter months to ensure that the works carried out are sufficient to resolve the issues “
