Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has offered his condolences following the death of Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh on Friday night. The 19-year-old Monaghan under-20s GAA football captain died following a car crash.
Mr McNulty, who represented Armagh, said the young player’s death comes as a devastating blow to his family, friends, teammates and the GAA family as a whole.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said “The news of Brendan’s death is shocking for us all and is an absolute tragedy. It is heartbreaking that his young life has been cut so short. That he was killed just hours after he captained Monaghan under-20s to victory over Donegal makes it all the more devastating. My thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and all Gaels. The sadness of his death will be felt throughout Monaghan and the wider GAA family.
“The outpouring of grief following his death shows the high regard he was held in, both inside and outside the GAA. He was obviously a very talented player and a well-liked young man. I’m sure the GAA family will rally round and offer all the support they can in this trying time.”
