Saoradh Slam Detention of Newry Chairperson

The Revolutionary Republican Party Saoradh has slammed the detention of its Newry Chairperson on Tuesday evening by the Crown Forces.

Speaking from Saoradh’s Newry office local party member Cliodhna McCool said

“At the time Saoradh activists were repairing a Republican mural in Clanrye Park that had recently been vandalised by anti-republican elements when four Crown Force vehicles arrived at the scene.”

“After a brief stand off the chair of our Newry Craobh was handcuffed and arrested for “criminal damage to a footpath.”

McCool added “It’s interesting to note that this area has seen numerous incidents of anti-community activity with the Crown Forces nowhere to be seen. Yet when Republicans fix a painting (a basic example of political activism) several carloads can be mobilised to target, harass and arrest them.”

“This fact will not be lost on the local community.”

“Such was the ridiculousness of this arrest the Crown Forces dearrested our activist after being driven a few miles outside Newry.”

Cliodhna concluded “The deliberate targeting of activists engaging in legitimate political activities should be condemned by all right thinking people.”
