Newry City Councillor Valerie Harte had said that there is support for Kilmorey Park to be included in the consultation on Windmill Road /Heather Park Play areas and she has encouraged all stakeholders to respond to the survey.
The local Councillor said,
“I am delighted to see that Playboard NI in conjunction with Newry Mourne and Down Council, have put out the Consultation on Windmill Road /Heather Park play areas.
This is part of the Councils Play Strategy set up a few years ago to look at all parks within the Council District”.
The Sinn Féin Councillor continued,
“Having spoken to Council Officials last year I’d asked for a third option, Kilmorey Park to be included in this survey, as many view this an area which could be utilised and developed into a fantastic park serving both young and old within our whole community. It would also help alleviate problems with anti-social behaviour in this particular area”.
Councillor Harte added,
“This facility will have a vast catchment area stretching as far out as the Rathfriland Road, where there are currently no play facilities and a limited amount of Green Space”
.
Valerie concluded,
“Developers, whether they be private, Housing Executive or Social Housing Enterprises when planning to build in the future need to take in to consideration the needs of the people who are going to reside in their developments and incorporate Play Facilities, Green Spaces in their plans”
