Slieve Gullion area Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis commenting after a collision at the Old Lislea Post Office Junction said that there was a need for additional street lighting and signage as well as clearer road markings on the stretch of road.
The local Councillor said,
“Local residents and myself feel that additional lighting and signage is needed along that section or road at the Old Post Office junction. Clearer road markings are also required”.
Speaking about the entire stretch of road running from Sturgan Brae to Happy Days corner (Maphoner Road), the Sinn Féin elected representative said,
“I have once again reported issues of concern to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI)
The main road from the top of Sturgan Brae to the Happy Days (Maphoner Rd) turn off is in a shocking state of repair.
Patchwork jobs will just not suffice anymore. This is a main road in south Armagh, the main thoroughfare from Camlough to Crossmaglen, it is unfair that road users have to drive on such terribly maintained roads.
These issues regarding this stretch of road has been reported many times to DfI but to no avail”.
The Councillor continued
“In a similar area, the Mountain Road in Lislea has also gone beyond patchwork. This road needs resurfaced from start to finish. It too is a main rural route from south Armagh to Armagh City via the Tullyah Road. It has also been reported on numerous occasions and it is very frustrating to myself, local residents and many motorists using these roads, that our appeals for action to address these issues have been ignored”.
